Go online to nominate Walsall’s community heroes

Date Published : 08 September 2010

Nomination forms for the Mayor’s Civic Awards are available online and people are being urged to suggest worthy recipients as the deadline for entries approaches.

The Mayor’s Civic Awards, known as the “Doras,” will be held on Friday 26 November at Bank’s stadium with a celebrity host, to be announced nearer the event.

There are a host of categories available for nominations with the aim of highlighting the hard work put in by residents to improve and enhance their communities and the lives of their neighbours.

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Gary Clarke, said: “The summer holiday season is more or less over now so I hope people can find a bit of spare time to come up with suggestions for worthy award winners.

“The beauty of being able to make nominations online is that it makes the whole process so much quicker and easier – although postal entries are just as gratefully received.

“I know there are so many people out there who make such a difference in this borough because of their fantastic efforts and I want them to have a night all to themselves where we recognise their importance.”

The categories are:

  • Improving Walsall’s Quality of Life Award
  • The Neighbourhood Safety Award
  • The Overcoming All Odds Award
  • Walsall Citizen of the Year
  • Walsall’s Creative Spirit Award
  • Walsall’s Green Award
  • Walsall’s Outstanding Sporting Achievement Award
  • Young Walsall Citizen of the Year
