Dance clubs sought for festival

Date Published : 08 September 2010

Dance clubs are being urged to show off their skills and encourage more people to join their groups at this year's Walsall Dance Festival organised by the council's leisure services team.

This year's main event and launch will be held in Gallery Square, in front of the New Art Gallery, on Saturday 18 September between 11am and 3pm.It provides a showcase for dance clubs around the borough to give demonstrations and also encourage people of all ages and abilities to sign up to classes.

Free taster classes will also be available throughout the festival which runs from 18 September to 1 October 2010.

The dance festival is taking place for the second time after last year's successful initial event.

Philippa Gay, Walsall Council active lifestyles officer, said: "A number of dance clubs have already signed up to this year's festival but we are keen for even more to take part.

"Dancing has become an increasingly popular pastime for people of all ages in recent years and this event is a great opportunity for groups to showcase their skills and build on the enthusiasm which exists for everything from tap to ballet."

Leisure chiefs are keen to sign up dance groups who provide classes for adults or children.
