Delighted pupils and staff at Walsall schools are celebrating another bumper year of GCSE results.
Provisional figures for students achieving five or more A* to C grades in this year’s exams are up by more than five percentage points.
The number of students achieving five or more GCSE A* to C including English and Mathematics also show very good improvement.
Children and their teachers have been praised for their achievements by Walsall Council Leader Councillor Mike Bird.
He said: “We’d like to say a very big ‘well done’ to pupils for their achievements. I’m sure there are many children right across our borough who got the results they wanted and their parents can be rightly proud.
“We’re pleased at the achievements that have been made. However, we know there is more work to be done to ensure every child reaches their potential.”
The full break down for GCSE results are set to be published in October.
Graham Talbot, Interim managing director of Walsall Children’s Services – Serco – said “I am delighted that the GCSE results in Walsall schools have improved again. These year on year improvements reflect the hard work done by staff in schools, supported by Walsall Children’s Services - Serco and Walsall Council. Most importantly it reflects the hard work of the young people supported by their parents and carers.
We will continue to help schools improve still further in the future so that every child in Walsall achieves the best that they can.”
