Changes to social care for adults

This information is about changes to adults social care, how this might affect you and what is happening in Walsall. These changes are often called personalisation.

There are many other words used to describe these changes - these are explained on our glossary page

To find out more look at our personalisation leaflet (PDF 477KB) and our easy read personalisation leaflet (PDF 591KB).  If you would like these leaflets in any other format, please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

What is personalisation?

Personalisation is about people being in control of their lives and having more choice about what they do and how they get information and support.  This will mean more of a focus on helping people to keep or re-gain their independence and signposting them to sources of support and other services in their own community.

This includes people who are getting funding from social care, as well as people who are funding their own care.  People who are getting social care funding will have greater choice about how they meet their needs and will have the option to control the money themselves, if they wish to.
