Consumer education lesson
Trading Standards offers schools the opportunity to have expert Trading Standards Officer come to the school and deliver a consumer education lesson looking at Trading Standards, who we are and what we do.
The Officers also look at Consumer Rights and Responsibilities as is required in line with the Citizenship curriculum including Sale of Goods Act and Supply of Goods and Services Act legislation.

Within the lesson you will notice that we bring along our talks box which contains examples of items we have seized from either markets or shops for being counterfeit, unsafe.
Below are comments from teachers whose groups have received a lesson from our officers:
- Which parts of the lesson were you particularly please with?
- "Class discussions and question and answer activity was very informative".
- "Wordsearch was a good starter activity as it calms the group down".
- Overall impression of the lesson?
- "The talk was excellent -I even learnt myself!".
- "Excellent, it is often difficult to engage our (excluded) pupils - everyone took part".
As part of the lesson delivery programme we also offer the use of two other packages. A web based programme called Talking Shop and another web based programme called Ask Cedric. Please choose from the links to access these resources.
