Sustainable Communities: Building for the future is a document which sets out the Governments plan for creating places where people want to live and where they will continue to want to live. It covers the whole of England .

• ensure all tenants of housing associations have a decent home by 2010, and improve the conditions for vulnerable people living in privately rented and privately owned homes
• ensure all tenants of housing associations and private rented homes get an excellent service from their landlord
• ensure all communities have clean, safe and attractive environments that people can take pride in
• bring life back into those areas where there is low demand for housing
• create a better balance in the housing market by ensuring that private house builders build the right type of homes in the right places, address the need for more affordable housing and make best use of existing properties
• make best use of land by ensuring the majority of additional housing is built on previously developed land

'Sustainable Communities in the West Midlands: Building for the future' is a regional plan that sets out proposals for carrying out the Governments plan within the West Midlands. It identifies what needs to be done on housing, neighbourhood renewal, planning, transport, economy, and employments and skills issues.
