What is asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring material that was used extensively in buildings in the UK between the 1950’s and the 1980’s, with its use not being totally discontinued until 1999.

Essentially its main use was for fireproofing and thermal insulation, but it was also wide variety of things including roof sheets, slates, tiles, piping, drainpipes, and panelling.

Asbestos is only harmful if it is disturbed and breaks down. Asbestos should only be removed by a licensed asbestos contractor and never by yourself.
