Award Winning Service
Housing Strategy and Partnerships - an award winning service!
Walsall’s Disability Forum presented the council’s Housing Strategy and Partnerships service with the Partnership Award at their annual awards evening on 1 April 2009. The award was for partnership working with the Voluntary Sector.
The partnership organise and manage a twice yearly Independent Living Event. There are over 30 stalls at the event with representatives from voluntary, statutory and charitable organisations. The most recent event held on Tuesday 17 March 2009 attracted almost 300 members of the public.
There are over 51,000 people who live with a disability in Walsall, and there are many services available to help them live independently. The event helps to raise awareness of the services available in Walsall delivered by the public, independent and voluntary sector that are of reduced cost or free of charge.
A member of the public visiting the event said;
“The event is a really good idea, there are so many organisations and you can get advice about almost anything. I visited the event because I wanted to find out more about shopmobility. When I had got the information I was looking for, I also visited the energy efficiency stand where I found some handy tips about heating my home that will save me money. I also visited the welfare rights stand, where I found out that I may be able to claim an attendance allowance”
The next Independent Living Event will be held in June 2010. As soon as we have more details we will list them here, please keep checking back .
