Food hazard warnings

Food Standards Agency

The Food Alert System is a method by which the Food Standards Agency use to notify local authorities, food industries and the public about unsafe food.

When the Food Hazard Warning is received by the Environmental Health Department, the manager and Environmental Health officers take the necessary action as deemed by the category level of the warning.

This may include visiting various food businesses to make sure that any suspect food is removed from the shelves and cannot be sold to the public. Press releases are also frequently issued to advise the public.

Visit the Food Standards Agency website to view current 'food alerts'.

In addition to the above, action may involve the removal of the unsafe food off the shelves, so that it cannot be sold to the public.
