Rubbish, waste and recycling

Recycling

Every resident in Walsall produces over half a tonne of waste each year. Currently most of this ends up in a landfill site, but these sites produce liquids and gases that can be harmful to the environment.

This means that the more rubbish you put into your bin the more damage is done to your local environment. These pages contain information and advice on how you can help to reduce the amount of waste produced in Walsall.

Why do we have to change?

Each local authority must aim to shift the greater proportion of its waste from unfavourable disposal routes such as landfill, to environmentally sustainable routes such as recycling and recovery (e.g. incineration with heat recovery).

Walsall's target for the recycling and composting of household waste is to recycle or compost at least 40% of household waste by 2010, 45% by 2015, and 50% by 2020.
