Mayor's parlour

Walsall Council House was built by the architect John Gibson in 1902-05 at the cost of £98,000.

Walsall Council House

The mayor's ante room in particular, displays much of the fine art-nouveau detailing which Gibson used for decoration throughout the building.

The doors and door surrounds in the suite are typically art-nouveau in style and, along with the fire place are all the original fittings.

The mayor's parlour, Ante-room and lobby contain many interesting and beautiful treasures. Some of the items on show are gifts bestowed to Walsall and its mayor's over the years and many have interesting stories.

The parlour

This room is used as the mayor's personal office and hosting small receptions for visiting parties. All guests are asked to sign the Official Visitors book - there are names recorded from all around the world as well as from our own Royal Family.
