Burial

General

A burial can only take place where a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death has been issued by a Doctor, enabling the death to be registered and a disposal certificate obtained from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

The Disposal Certificate must be surrendered to Bereavement and Registration Services before the interment can take place.

Walsall council reserves the right to decline or postpone a funeral if, in the opinion of the Bereavement and Registration Services Manager or Head of Service, inclememt weather has made the ground conditions and working environment hazardous to staff and members of the public.

Useful information

Burials in Walsall cemeteries can take place between 9:30am and 3:00pm (2:15pm in January and December) during the normal working week. For arrangements for burials outside these hours, or on Saturdays, Sundays and some Bank Holidays see Out of hours Burials

A period of 45 minutes is required between burial service times in the same cemetery to allow for funeral traffic flow and for preparation time by the ground staff at the graveside.

New full coffin graves are available on lawn sections in the cemeteries at Streetly Cemetery, North Walsall Cemetery and Willenhall Lawn Cemetery
